|
The Gap Theory, for the most part, is a strictly literal interpretation of the Genesis Account of Creation. It contends that there is a "gap" or space of time between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. Let us examine these two verses, from the Concordant Literal Version of the Bible: Created by the Elohim were the heavens and the earth. 2 Yet the earth became a chaos and vacant, and darkness was on the surface of the submerged chaos. Yet the spirit of the Elohim is vibrating over the surface of the water. (Genesis 1:1-2 CLV) The key word in Genesis 1:2 is the word "became." In the Hebrew, this word is "hayah." This word is translated as "was" in the KJV, but this is an incorrect translation. This word literally means "became." In Genesis 1:1, God created the Heavens and the Earth, but in Genesis 1:2, the Earth "became a chaos and vacant." The Hebrew word for "a chaos" also means "worthless." Does God create something that is "worthless?" There is no reference in Scripture that He does. In fact, in every day of the six days of creation, God saw that his work was "good" (Genesis chapter 1). The Earth "became" worthless over a period of billions of years. However, many believe, as part of the Gap Theory, that there was a race of man living on the Earth prior to Adam and Eve. This belief is completely unfounded and is merely a supposition. There is evidence to support a "gap" between Genesis verses 1 and 2, but there is no evdence to support a pre-Adamic race. Modifying the Gap TheoryThis website will adhere to a strictly literal interpretation of Scritpure, that the Universe was created in the Big Bang, the Earth was formed billions of years later in the formation of our solar system, that life on Earth was created a matter of a few thousand years ago, during six literal days of Creation by God Almighty, and that life was destroyed, save what was in the Ark of Noah, during a Global Flood. This website will not contend that there was a pre-Adamic race on the Earth, nor that that race became the demons after their death. |
